In the Spring of 2000, Bill Maness, the Recreation Director at The Gym at Peachtree, noticed a group of Latino children getting off the school bus across the street from Peachtree Presbyterian Church. He learned that these children had parents who spoke little to no English and could not help them with their homework. These students started coming for after school tutoring and their parents came for classes as English as a Second Language. In 2001, LaAmistad was born.
What started as a helping hand has turned into a multi-dimensional program serving our neighbors and strengthening our community.
